Specifically, the threat actors behind this campaign typically target Facebook accounts using Facebook Ads and Business services. After identifying those accounts, the attackers reach out to their LinkedIn profiles (which business users generally maintain), delivering them the malware. The researchers believe the attackers might have adopted this uncanny strategy to stay under the radar.

Phishing, pronounced the same as fishing, is a practice of sending fraudulent emails, text messages, facebook messages or other forms of messages where the sender pretends to be a legitimate company or a legitimate sender, when in reality they are hackers trying to get the receiver to reveal their private information, usually their login details.

This can be verified by looking at the URL at the top of the page, in this case, it is yt.appsvideos.net. This is the 1st place to always check to ensure that you are not a victim of a phishing attack. If the URL is anything other than , you will know it is a phishing attack, in which case you will not provide your login details because if you do, the hacker will have access to your Facebook account.

Please note that Facebook will never ask you to login to your account by following a link from your Facebook Messenger or any other link if you are already logged into your account. There may be an exception in rare occasions when Facebook thinks your account is compromised, however, this is very rare and if you check the URL, you will always know if you have been hacked or not.

There's no regulations in place, there's no universal trust system or verification system for someone to know. This is an area that a lot of hackers are exploiting," says BJ Jenkins, CEO of Barracuda Networks.

Sometimes, hackers can get a little sneaky. Social engineering is when malicious actors forgo the use of complicated hacking techniques in favor of their own wits. So instead of using computing tools and technologies, they utilize psychological manipulation in order to get users (you!) to divulge personal information. Phishing is actually a form of social engineering.

In this video, a journalist has his cell phone account hacked during a demonstration at the DEF CON hacking conference. In a little under two minutes, the woman learns his personal email address, adds herself to his account, and changes the password. This is a stark example of just how easy it might be to trick telephone operators into giving your personal information away.

A good rule is that SSL/TLS should protect any login page for an important account (like Google, Facebook, Twitter, or bank accounts). SSL/TLS makes it very hard for a hacker on the same network to send you a fake website if you type in the correct URL, which could otherwise be very simple. 2ff7e9595c
